PROGRAM DETAILS
CATNAP, OBJ is an Arcade type Game in which you try
to knock the yowling cats off the wall. It looks very
much like a popular one by Synapse. It is a 'ZIMAC
program by J,M, Ford, There are five SELECtable skill
levels, and a five minute clock to beat, For one
player with Joystick. It will load & RUN even if BASIC
is in your machine.
LOSTTOMB.GBJ- a gRaphic ADVentu re Game (for 1
player with Joystick), in which you get to explore a
mysterious Amazonian pyramid. It's instructions are
very specific and complete; they list the programmers
as Steve a Bruce (whoever they are?). It will not RUN
if BASIC is In your computer. Use the DUP menu (from
another disk) and load it with DOS ‘L‘*
SPACEBAL ,QBJ - for 1 or 2 players; who play ball on
a 3 - D ( ? ) court; with Joysticks, By Interface Software,
(C) 1987 by Thomas Fisehermann, It has a few bits in
German, - which should not be troublesome even if you
don't know the language. You can B(INary) load it
with or without BASIC on.
XAGON . OBJ is a Game from M.A.C.E* of Australia, by
D, Pentecost. It's a lot like Q-BERT . You have five
lives (or men) per game. The five best game scores
(and the last) are recorded & displayed. You must try
to grab the gold while avoiding the NASTIES! For one
player with Joystick,
ZETAFAIR . OBJ (for Zeta Affair} is a ‘space opera'
action Game- for one or two players with Joysticks.
You're in a space war. You must propel and control
your spaceship while you fire at the enemy! Use
[SELECT] /[OPTION] for set-up, and [START] to play,
SAB TAG E . BAS will load (and work) with or without
BASIC, It's very fast and tough to understand. For 1
player with J/S. The instruction I have says you must
try to sabotage the enemy's defense bunker 1 . I have
not played it enough to work out all the rules. You
must keep moving!! You have 9 lives!
Bellcom 1 s Movie disk #3 occupies most of the back
side. It has 5 movie maker Demos and an autoplayer .
One of these has been duplicated on another SLCC disk.
Boot it without BASIC (or you can B[ inary load]
AUTORUN. SYS) .New Year new place
January Minutes
The first meeting of the New Year in a new location was
anything but orderly. President Robbie Bridges started the meeting on
time, at [east I think he did. With the new location to investigate nobody
would have noticed whether he did or not.
The regular meeting was held in the computer room of St.
Leander's School. The night of the meeting was one of those al! too
regular, rainy, stormy nights that only the brave or stupid would go out in.
I of course was the brave one, the others??? As far as computer rooms
go this one is probably unique in having maybe upwards of fifty
computers, everything from Apples to Mackintoshes to PC s, of every
vintage.
The following Monday night the PC/ST SIG also met at the
school, for this meeting another room was available. The room was or is a
workroom (?) like room that has a lot of possibilities. Ail in all the location
looks [ike it will work out great. Both meetings were a combination of a
whole lot of nothing as everybody wondered how the location could best
be used to our advantage. By next meeting there may be some
semblance of order to the proceedings. (But donl bet on it!)
As this year starts out it might be of interest to look at our
newsletter exchange program. The SLCC has participated in the
exchange program for many years. At one time, about 1988 if my memory
is working properly the club exchanged newsletters with over 1 50 Atari
dubs around the world. This group of 150 has slowly dwindled to a real
hardcore number of 6. Of that 6 almost all have become combination
Atari/PC clubs. Some have even had to change the name of their clubs to
show they are not Atari specific, ! guess that's progress.
One interesting point this change of platforms has produced for
yours truly is that instead of typing in Atariwnter, 1 now use MS WORD and
all or almost all of my misspelled words no longer get to the Editor to
correct. This program has not made my spelling any better but now it just
corrects them as I type. At the rate Word is evolving it won't need me or
anyone else to do the typing. In a couple more years it will be able to do
this scandal sheet by itself, and if it can get driving lessons it will be able
to deliver the finished copy for editing and mailing, (That's progress, isn't
it?)
Other computer doings.
As this is being written Intel is announcing its latest CPU, a 333
MHz one built with the .25 process. This will probably be the last one to
use the 66 MHz motherboards, as they will be raised to 1 00 MHz in a few
months. (Now all I need Is enough money to buy one,} Speaking of
money, it seems as though Compaq had a little to spare so they picked
up a real bargain, Digital Equipment Company (DEC) for only 9.6 Billion
dollars. The biggest computer deaf ever.
NEW MEETING LOCATION
St. Leander is just three blocks west (towards 1880) of the Library, on the
south side of Davis street. Park in the playground at the rear of the school
and use the entrance located there.
See ya the re 1 !
