New stuff

Genesys

MD‘Basic

Genesys cuts weeks off the time it takes to develop
GS/OS desktop programs because it allows you to specify
all your menus, windows, dialog boxes, and controls with
points and clicks in a desktop environment (instead of
byte-by-byte in a program editor). You see the results of
what you're doing on the screen in front of you,
instantaneously, without compiling or linking anything.

Once you've created your program's interface with
Genesys, it will generate fully commented source code for
ANY language that supports GS/OS 5.0.

Novice desktop programmers can gain immediate
insights into how desktop programs work by studying the
generated source code. And non-programmers can use
Genesys to tailor desktop programs that use GS/OS
resources to their tastes. You can use Genesys to rename
menu items or controls, to change the shape or color of
windows or controls, to add keyboard equivalents to
menus and controls, and more.

spreadsheet information into a report, importing graphics
into database applications, and more.

Hard Drive Assembly

SS-007 Genesys

$99.00

Using AppleWorks

Arthur and Elaine Aron. Que’s new 3rd edition
includes Quick Start and Advanced applications for all
modules of classic AppleWorks. Integrates new features of
AppleWorks 3.0 into the text.

IN-006 Using AppleWorks $21.95

Using AppleWorks GS

Katherine Murray. This book provides an introduction
to all modules of AppleWorks GS and provides step-by-
step instructions on such applications as producing form
letters and mailing labels, creating a newsletter, integrating

Build your own removable media hard drive with the
SyQuest assembly. Great for backups or for essentially
unlimited storage capacity at hard drive speeds.

After formatting and partitioning, each cartridge holds
over 40 megabytes of data. (The assembly itself does not
include a cartridge, so you must buy at least one.)

The SyQuest SCSI assembly requires the SCSI drivers
supplied with Apple's new high-speed SCSI card. With the
new drivers, it will work with either the new card or with
Apple's older Rev C SCSI card.

The SyQuest assembly fits into the Leadman hard drive
case/power supply with room to spare for a second hard
drive in the same case. To build a complete SyQuest drive
you'd need the case (DC-001), a SCSI cable (RC-004), the
drive assembly (DC-006), a cartridge (DC-007), and an
Apple SCSI card (AP-001).

The ligs Finder treats the SyQuest drive just as you
would expect. The SyQuest icon dims when you eject the
cartridge and brightens again when you insert a new
cartridge. Now you can back up your hard disk quickly and
easily; you can carry over 40 megabytes of data in a box
the size of a 5.25 disk mailer; you can access virtually
unlimited amounts of data by changing cartridges.

DC-006 SyQuest drive assembly $749.00
DC-007 SyQuest 40meg cartridge $119.00

IMPRQVED! MD-Basic was mentioned in last month's
New Stuff, but it has already been improved! It no longer
requires the APW or QRCA programming environments. It
will run from the Finder or from any GS/QS "shell," such as
Prosel 16.

MD-Basic allows you to use the power of the lIgs to
write more robust Applesoft programs in less time. MD-
Basic translates your source code, which doesn't need line
numbers and which can include macros, named
subroutines and long variable names, into standard
Applesoft that will run on any Apple II and that can be
compiled with the Beagle Compiler.

MD-Basic allows you to use IF-THEN-ELSE, REPEAT-
UNTIL, and WHILE-WEND loops. Use all the comments
you like, they don't appear in your source code unless you
want them to. Don't worry about "reserved words". Use
"include" to add pre-written modules from your library to a
program; use "define" to create more readable programs
that use defined constants and code macros. MD-Basic
runs under GS/QS, but the Applesoft programs it creates
run under ProDQS 8.

Pricing Error

The price given last month for a 4 megabyte
Chinook RAM 4000 card was incorrect. The correct
price for this card is $429. Please get a pencil and

We apologize for any undue excitement this
mistake may have created in our customers or any

Itie A2'€eittral Sttmnier Conference

Kansas City
Friday & Saturday
July 20 & 21

For most attendees, myself included, the
Developers Conference hosted by \2 Cenirai in July
was an experience bordering on the religious.

Bill Kennedy, Technical Editor, InCider

Without exception, every attendee I have talked to
feels the First A2’CentraI Developers Conference at
Avila College in Kansas City was a success. The
retreat atmosphere was a signiFicant factor in making
it so.

Cecil Eretwell, Technical Editor, Call Apple

/^s / look back, it was the most positive computer
conference I have ever been to and I certainly
recommend it to anyone with an interest in the Apple
II line. Yes, I had a great time; yes, I learned a lot-
yes, I met some outstanding people; and, yes. I'll go
back.

A1 Martin, Editor, The Road Apple

Travel Arrangements

DaySpring Travel of Overland Park has arranged
conference airfare and hotel discounts. This year
DaySpring can arrange discounted hotel rooms on
Kansas City s Country Club Plaza as well as in nearby

Join us again this year at Kansas City's Avila College
Campus for the A2-Central Summer Conference.

Last year's attendees gave us very high ratings and
we want to do even better this year. We ve decided to
replace last year's one-track keynote afternoon with
more sessions and more opportunities to meet other
conference attendees.

Apple Computer, Inc. will once again fully
participate in the A2-Central conference. A number of
sessions will include engineers from Apple, and
Apple's Developer Technical Support team will once
again be running a Bug-Busting room at the
conference.

Apple has also agreed to sponsor this year's evening
at the ballpark. This year the Royals will be playing the
Boston Red Sox.

Junel is coming!

Early registration ends Junel. Send your
registration in today for the best possible rates!

Meet Jane Lee, Apple's product marketing manager
for the Apple 11; David Szetela, manager of Apple's
developer support operations; Apple engineers who
have developed and are developing the Apple 11 family;
Apple developer technical support engineers; and
developers like yourself.

Meet the creators of the development tools you use,
such as ORCA s Mike Westerfield and TimeOut
UltraMacros Randy Brandt. Meet the people who
publish software on a royalty basis or who buy it
outright. Meet some people who have started their own
companies. This is the largest annual gathering of
Apple 11 developers anywhere. Don't miss it!

Apple llgs College

On Thursday, July 19, the day before our
summer conference officially begins, Apple will
be holding an Apple llgs College at Avila. The cost
of the college for conference attendees is $100,
which includes meals and a room at Avila
Wednesday night.

The college will include overview sessions on
subjects such as GS/OS and toolbox
programming, lab sessions where you'll work on a
programming project of your choice, and classes
on specific tools. College staff will be available all
three days of the conference to help you with
your college project.

You must register by June 1 to get the best prices.
We have 80 double rooms available at Avila on a first-
come-first-served double-occupancy basis.

Conference prices include all meals from Thursday
evening through Sunday morning. If you like, you can
pay for the sessions and meals only and make your
own hotel and transportation arrangements. Or you
can stay three nights (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday)
at Avila for an additional $50. And, for $25 more, we
will arrange to have you met at the airport and brought
directly to Avila and returned. This final option would
cover ALL of your costs for the conference except
