An apparatus and method for measuring the relative phase of echo signals in a multiple-echo system. A signal generator generates an exciting tone burst and subsequent tone bursts delayed in phase from the exciting tone burst. The exciting tone burst is gated into a transducer coupled to the multiple-echo system. Each subsequent tone burst is converted into a series of pulses. Each pulse triggers a sample/hold circuit to sample each echo signal. The samples of the echo signal are averaged and...

Significant progress has been made in the demonstration of a wide bandwidth green fiber laser. Previous reports have detailed the generation of wide bandwidth chaotic signals using fiber ring lasers. Amplification of these signals has also been reported, to power levels that allow frequency doubling from infrared (IR, 1064 nm) to green (532 nm). A free space optical system has been previously reported that performed frequency doubling of a continuous wave (CW) 1064 nm source. We now report...

Depending on the design, synthesized-sweep SFCW generators often have phase discontinuities at certain intervals (such as 1 MHz) when sweeping over a wider band. In addition, when sweeping repetitively over a small interval (such as 100 kHz), the starting phase may not be coherent from one sweep to the next. Undesired phase discontinuities give rise to spurious spectral components and prevent application of MTI techniques. This report discusses modifications and adjustments for minimizing or...

Integrated studies of the geomagnetic field have the potential to address a wide range of important processes in the deep mantle and core, asthenosphere, lithosphere, oceans, and the solar-terrestrial environment. These studies have direct...
