Unlike the first game of the series, that was a mission-based game, and the second one, where your character had unique abilities such as observing the whole level and growing to unlimited height, James Pond 3 is a standard jump and run platform game. Pond can run very quickly (by holding down the A button) through large levels, which often contain steep mountain sides and other tricky areas. Once again, he has to oppose the evil scientist Maybe and his minions.

I can't believe this counts as a licensed video game! James Pond is a nostalgic classic for me, but I've never seen the version of this game that actually has the licensed content, so it was a surprise for me to see the Amiga version with its advert fully in-place. Then I cheat and we play the Mega Drive version anyway. It's a Christmas miracle!

James Pond 3, the covert ops sequel to RoboCod you never knew existed, is faster and more technically sophisticated, yet failed to Take the Biscuit (TM, probably). Maybe the 007-cyborg-cop parody's expiry date had passed by 1993. Maybe the design mechanics are overly complicated, sabotaging its pick-up-and-play potential.
