The original mix of the seaduck cowl had to be printed nose side up to get a good print out of it. That required A LOT of support. I sliced the cowl nose off so that it could be printed in two pieces: nose ring with nose up, and rest of cowl nose down. this eliminates the need for support completely. I included a couple of alignment pins to help aligning the nose and cowl for gluing.

While printing up the awesome Jet Engine by CATIAV5FTW (Thing 1327093) I thought that a cowling would look good for it so I went in search of one. The only one I could find was the one that I am remixing. Unfortunately, that model had been shrunk down to 60% of the full size one and the original 100% files were not provided. One of my RC flying buddies asked me to create a replacement engine cowl for his FMS 1700mm F7F Tigercat. One of the cowls had gotten damaged by a prop so I got the good one and modeled it up using Design Spark Mechanical. To get the shape I used a profile gage and then transferred the profile to graphing paper. I've had real trouble with thin walls splitting apart, particularly on larger prints, (a. because they're larger, b. because the take longer to print -- i.e., overnight, and my printer is in an unheated shed). The cover should help a bit for aerodynamics and allow decent airflow to be directed on to the motor. Not a perfect fit, but my foam build is not perfect either. I added a tack end to push into the front of the fuselage to help hold it and going to use a couple dabs of hot glue on the bottom to help hold it in place.
