I just spent my annual GD CD budget...

Pre ordered the MSG box set and DP 43. Extreme opposites, late 60's and early 80's.

I love having 8 favorite bands that are all the same band.

I am not sure about the MSG run regarding the lineage ... I already have all those shows in some form or another ... during this time the GD moved away from open reel and moved to cassette, and later PCM/DAT for two channel needs...ocassionlaly, the GD would do multi channel recordings but they were very slim ... Spring 1990 was the last time I know of for multi track recordings... maybe, the MSG shows were , I'm not sure ? However, this era was during the crack down by AFM and stagehands unions on recording ... Zappa went nuts about having to spend the extra costs to record his OWN music that he ran a NAK cassette deck underneath the stage away from union inspection ... I did read about the latest Dave's Picks that they had a box of stuff that was Owsley's personal recordings, but a lot of that stuff is actually on cassette too is what I've heard , and there are even some "room tapes" that he did from the front of house mix desk ... anyone , know the lineage of the MSG shows from GDM?

I remember wishing for this MSG set, so I feel almost obligated to buy it. The 69 is very intriguing because Bear!

I thought the same thing . I think this tis the fist boxed set of early 80's shows they have done (?) Usually it come down to the change of going to cassette masters, etc.

The box set looks great. 6 high quality shows from the 80s!
