I was able to search it just a couple days ago, but the last two attempts return 404 error messages.

Flickr has already explained their side of it over here, making it sound like IA was chomping at the bit to delete the account: https://www.flickr.com/help/forum/en-us/72157720510495566
They mention that "... This decision came after weeks of conversation and coordination with the Internet Archive." It seems uncharacteristic for IA to want to destroy such an important tool along with such a huge amount of metadata.
We're a small group trying to figure out exactly what happened to the account and why — it's loss is immense and devastating. Most importantly, we're trying to figure out if all the user-generated metadata was backed up, as it is irreplaceable.
Could you help me by pointing me in the direction of someone who I could speak to at IA who knows the details, and might know if any backups exist? And, ultimately, someone we can talk to that might be able to help us reverse the decision and have the account reinstated, if only temporarily so a proper backup can be made?

Anyway, is there any plan/hope to make the images available somewhere else in the future?
I know (all?) of them are downloadable as torrents here on archive.org, but it is far from being readily usable.
