This is the third episode in a series of six webinars on Software Preservation. The Software Preservation Webinar Series provides a survey of software preservation contexts. Each episode explores a different software preservation context by providing an overview, discussion with guest speakers (specialists in digital preservation, software studies, scholarly communication, open source software and more) and open discussion with attendees. The webinar series is jointly hosted by the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) and Software Preservation Network (SPN).
Episode 3 highlights research use cases for software collections, and explore whether and how the “collections as data” approach is a useful response to the unique challenges of collecting, preserving and providing access to software? Through round-table discussion, guests discuss their research exploring specific software environments or using existing software collections. Research & Facilitation Lead for Episode 3 is Andrea Altenbach (Studio Gang). Special Guests include: Matthew Allen (University of Toronto and Harvard Graduate School of Design) and Eric Kaltman (Carnegie Mellon University).
