In this Studio Science, filmed at LEV Festival 2018, Moritz Simon Geist talks through his artistic goals with Sonic Robots and demonstrates his Tripods One kinetic sculpture/instrument, highlighting the thrilling possibilities of a future where design, robotics and electronic music meet.
Moritz Simon Geist is a Dresden-based artist, musicologist and engineer whose work envisions the future of electronic music as one ruled by robots. With projects ranging from traditional installations to jolting live performances, Geist’s work with his Sonic Robots emphasizes sonic and rhythmic precision, capturing the inner workings of electronic music through the physical actions of these mechanical instruments. In the past, he’s collaborated with artists including Mouse of Mars and Tyondai Braxton; built an oversized version of the Roland TR-808, an interactive replica of the renowned drum machine; and created the Glitch Robot, which embraces the unpredictable errors that can come from human/robot interaction.
