Part one of my two hour special episode about this swell guy here. The focus is mainly on single release mixes and I worked long and hard on the construction and segues in this one as I had waited two years to finally attack Bowie as a show subject. A lot of this first part is made up of lesser known early singles and it has some hard-rockin' sequences, so, as usual, Turn It Up ! And don't miss Part Two of this Bowie Fest here:...

Well, with all of the Hallowe'en records / files that I have, and the fact that the show was going out live just shortly before the holiday, I couldn't resist indulging in a bit of Spooky Record Wallowing. As it turned out, the station manager loved it, and ran it several times other than its allotted times. Very flattering - I love it when people dig the "weirder" shows! I hope you enjoy it too! There are several long spoken word thingies, and some fun songs, of course. Naturally,...

I sat on this particular episode for many weeks before assembling it, as I often do - waiting for strong inspiration to make it come alive for me, also I was concerned as usual with how it would all "gel" together, if at all. I tend to not want to do musician theme shows as merely "music cut followed by music cut", so I searched out a lot of interesting EXTRA vocal and non-musical bits to make it fun for me and I like the final outcome on this one! Crank it and see what you...

In this the third Martin Denny - related episode we get down to some record collector nitty gritty stuff as we present a side-by-side comparison between the original 1956 mono recording of his first album EXOTICA and the very different 1958 re-recording for stereo. Not only did the personnel change between the two versions but there are numerous differences in the arrangements of the songs, and we go through the two albums song by song to examine how they re-designed the material in the...

Here comes a wonderful selection of ballads and rockers that inspired the Beatles. They also did their own cleverly re-arranged cover versions of many of them. As you will come to know - I adore vintage kid's records. On this weeks show I focused on records of a more educational variety. Some of them are just for fun, and others really want to teach you about space travel and the universe. Also in the mix are some instrumental pieces from "adult-oriented" records that have an "outer space" theme about them. So buckle up tight and join me on a fun visit to the stars and beyond!

Here's a favorite record from 1975, the entire wonderful Quiet Sun album Mainstream , followed by selections from the 1970 Supersister lp Present from Nancy , also a terrific record throughout. Fans of odd / tricky time signatures take note - this episode's got 'em!

A one hour tribute to vintage sound effects records. I've included a few really old ones from 78 rpm discs, but mostly long-players from the 1950s and 60s. This was a bear to put together, the result of many downloads of old records and then hours of sifting sounds out of them and assembly. The final result features at least 75 tracks - a new record for my show! Turn It Up-! It is after all Doctored for Super-Stereo!

Here is a nice set of vintage (1950s-1960s) country songs and novelty numbers that helped shape my guitar/vocal presentation style. Plus -they are delightful and fun to party to. A Country Party Set, and I have a LOT more to present in this wide genre, so stay tuned.

In this special episode we present the classic Firesign Theater " Dear Friends " series show " Big Brother is Washing " from September 19th, 1970, with famed engineer The Live Earl Jive . I've always adored this particular series of programs of theirs and am pleased to re-present one here on the radio in Western North Carolina, as they need all of the surrealism that they can get!

Here's  a really WILD and fun show devoted to the Star Trek (1960s) TV series, with gobs of amazing and rare records and original material. Once again, many many years of collecting brings forth a veritable phantasmagoria of TREK ... which come to think of it does have some material related to ST the Next Generation as well. This one was a listener favorite in its original run and you'll hear why!

Here's a VERY full hour just packed with Television Theme Music, as well as selected singles and album cuts in that vein. Having been born in 1961, I confined the scope of this thing to late 1950s to early 1970s TV music. This is the current record-holder for number of cuts played in one show. Notably absent are the themes from Spider-Man and Star Trek , as they have their very own episodes. Just for fun, here is a complete list of the tracks: Friday's Theme, To the Batmobile, The Streetbeater...

The first of two parts of a very fun complete radio show by the terrific Flo & Eddie ( Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman ). This was the beginning of their second season of doing the " By the Fireside " show and they brought on their pal Harry Nilsson to spin some records, read PSAs, and generally goof around; as well as playing a bunch of Nilsson. One thing about F&E I forgot to mention on the show is that along with their being the lead vocalists in the Turtles , and singers in...

Who needs an excuse to wallow in cuts from the first three Steppenwolf lps? Not me! I did slip one song in from their fifth record, but this is primarily pieces from the first three albums, and quite a fun set at that! Definitely turn this one up nice 'n' loud!

Good ol' noisey Big City are back for another turn on our show, this time beginning what will be an ongoing showcase for their custom-made radio programs, made specifically for particular radio stations around the globe over the years, with unique music pieces and mixes, loads of hilarious fake ads, psas, and peculiar station IDs and ephemera. This episode features a half-hour show made just for WFMU in 1996, and we'll hear several rare cuts from BCO to fill out the second half of the show,...
