TEL (Telephone Electronics Line) was a small publication that was dedicated to phone phreaking and hacking. It began publishing in November 1974. TEL was similar to TAP but was geared totally toward phone phreaking. In 1975, Pacific Telephone & Telegraph won a lawsuit against the publishers of TEL. The Superior Court of California, County L.A. court ordered TEL to stop publishing immediately. A letter was mailed to all subscribers advising them to destroy all back issues of TEL. TEL ceased publishing after only 7 issues. Also included in this collection is a schematic flyer included with one issue and a portion of the injunction letter from California Superior Court.

TEL represents one of a small set of publications dedicated to understanding and publishing information discovered about the original dominant American telephone system, including finding flaws and revealing little-known details in the engineering and interface. Because of its relatively short run and quick suppression, TEL never gained much in the way of attention or reproduction in later histories of phone and computer hacking.
