DOS and Windows-based press kits, games or demos surrounding a media project (usually movies and TV shows) provided for press to have photographs, descriptions and media assets for press outlets.
This is my all-time favorite FPS, Chex Quest. It uses the Id Tech 1 engine that was used on Id Software's DOOM. This also led up to a fanbase, two sequels (Chex Quest 2 & Chex Quest 3), and even a HD remake on Steam!

The MicroCom Collection, published by MicroCom Systems of Santa Clara, CA, was a collection of shareware, public domain, and user-supported software for the PC, distributed through the mail on floppy disk.

The Demoscene has created wonderful programs for all sorts of platforms, including MS-DOS machines. Through the use of the EM-DOSBOX in-browser emulator, the demos in this collection are bootable and playable.
