Subject: Koan X is the original freeware, but 32-bit

The Koan X generative music software is here, found in ..\pcwapr97\HTML\RES\RESOURCE\HANDS\SOUND\KXS1016.EXE but is 32-bit (will likely not install run under 64-bit OS).

Here is some info. The SSEYO Koan X Silver version was first released just before Christmas 1996...

"Koan X Silver comes with 30 Koan templates and allows the user to change the tempo, scale and key of a 'KoanMix', and for each template, change its volume, stereo position, reverb and chorus settings. It also allows the saving of mixes to an SKP format". Silver does not time-out, and still installs and works on a Windows 7 PC (tested via this ISO).

The more advanced Gold and Platinum paid versions of X included... "even more Koan templates, and a number of powerful extra features, including: changing a template's patches; using SoundFonts and patch banks; changing a template's pitch; scratch mixing; soloing and muting; automatic mixing; recording out to audio or MIDI files; a Mix Editor for time-based arrangements; and the facility to create new mixes using a random selection of templates."

Patching, muting and random are probably the things you will miss the most, if you have an old 32-bit OS to run it. Recording can be done by "record what you hear" software.
