This research has two objectives. First, it attempt to reproduce the effect found in "Superheroes for change: Physical safety promotes socially (but not economically) progressive attitudes among conservatives". Second, it attempts to correlate increases in social liberalism with changes in Haidt's moral foundations. Assuming that it is unsuccessful in these objectives, we plan to look at how Haidt's moral foundations affect outcomes by race.

This study will investigate the relationship between different kinds of awe (dispositional awe, negative dispositional awe, elicited positive awe, elicited negative awe) and different domains of humility (modesty, self-abasement humility, intellectual humility, ethical humility, cosmic humility, environmental humility, religious humility, Einsteinian humility). It is hypothesized that intellectual humility will be the best predictor of positive awe and dispositional awe whereas self-abasement...

This study aims at analyzing the psychosocial effects of online and offline participation to several feminist protests in the context of the "balance ton bar" movement in Brussels, Belgium. More precisely, we will analyse if an online AND offline participation to a feminist movement has an impact on feminist identity and activist behavior (behavioral intentions) online and offline. We hypothesize that, through offline and online participation, participants will perceive more emotional...

In recent years, there has been a growing concern from both sides of the political spectrum about “censorship” of political views in the United States. Cancel culture, which many perceive as censorship of conservative views, has generated waves of debates since 2019. Recent surveys show both Democrats and Republicans believe social media platforms engage in censorship of political views. In addition, both sides are accusing each other of imposing censorship in schools and the workplace....

Taking into consideration the viral infection prevalence in context dentistry and the risks of acquisition, the importance of providing preventive measures for viral infection becomes urgent. In this context, it is possible to remember the use of mouth rinses, in the perspective of reducing viral load during dental procedures. Therefore, we will investigate the effect of mouthwashes on viruses of interest to dentistry - Herpes Virus, Hepatitis, Human Immunodeficiency Virus, Influenza and...

This article studies study how exposure to partisan political messages on social media affects users' decision to eliminate friends from their network. To do so, we implement an image-based conjoint experiment with paired tweets exposing users edited social messages about the current debt crises in Argentina. Variations of the conjoint features signal to users ingroup and outgroup partisan heuristics about the responsibility for the debt crisis. We then ask respondents if they would eliminate...

We plan to conduct a series of four variations of an experimental task in which we manipulate participants' expectations about the availability of information that will subsequently be the content of a memory test, to evaluate the effect this has on their ability to successfully remember it. In particular, across the variations we will modify whether memory for verbatim details or for gist is tested, and whether the information to be remembered consists of disparate, single-sentence trivia...

This study aims to answer the question of whether social identity switches are effective or if they lead to costs such as a delay in activating the new social identity. In a previous study - using Implicit Association Tasks to prompt and assess social identity switches - findings suggest that social identity switches are highly effective. This online study aims to replicate those results with a different method (linguistic style analysis) to assess the currently salient social identity. In a...

In French, common nouns can be feminine or masculine. In France, the “Académie Française” has recommended using the term Covid-19 as feminine, but it is clear that in common usage and in the media, the term Covid-19 is rather used as masculine. The objective of this research is to study experimentally whether the gender assigned to the Covid-19 disease and its perceived gender have an impact on its perceived severity, the protective measures implemented, the perceived risk... Growing research suggests that death anxiety underpins numerous mental health conditions, including body-image-related disorders such as eating disorders and body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). However, despite its theoretical relevance, the impact of death anxiety on muscle dysmorphic disorder (MDD), a subtype of BDD which primarily afflicts men, has not been explored. The current study will address this important gap by examining whether death anxiety drives symptoms of MDD. A sample of 326 men...

Internalized sexism, also called internalized misogyny, occurs when women apply sexist messages heard throughout their lives to themselves and other women (Bearman et al., 2009). It would be easy to assume that internalized sexism is as simple as sexism perpetrated by women, but the reality is slightly more complicated. In the case of sexism, men enforce the written and unwritten rules that preserve systems of inequality. In the case of internalized sexism, women continue to enforce the system...

The wake of this unprecedented global crisis posed considerable physical and social challenges that threatened families’ mental health and well-being (Hibel et al., 2020). Australia has a strong drinking culture, with alcohol deeply engrained into its core beliefs and practices. Despite the obvious health risks attached to alcohol consumption, the amount of advertising that exists is high. Interestingly, there is research that suggests that people tend to underestimate their own drinking behaviours. Therefore, we will measure the recall of alcohol from a video to determine whether people underestimate the frequency of alcohol from a video.

We take an experimental priming approach with residents of states that have relatively strong "pro-life" abortion policies to determine whether priming a respondent's pro-life views (with questions about those views) will cause them to become more supportive of COVID-19 policy restrictions.

Early in the COVID-19 pandemic drastic measures have been implemented restricting social contact between residents and visitors was well within long term care facilities in most countries. Breaking off bonds between residents and their loved ones and the loss of autonomy experienced by residents prepared a breeding ground for feelings of helplessness and being at the mercy. At the same time, ceasing communal meals and activities the lack of stimulation brought along the danger of cognitive...
