The problem of attention bias in addiction is well known, but in recent years it has become clear that there is not only a tendency toward attention bias toward the addictive stimulus but also a tendency toward attention bias away. In research on PTSD, the problem of attention bias variability has been pointed out, and its relation to PTSD severity has been pointed out. This variability was associated with less effective cognitive control and proneness to negative emotional states. Alcohol...

The inflammatory cascade is independently associated with the occurrence and progression of insulin resistance, atherosclerosis, neurodegeneration and tumour growth. The main question of this study is: What influence do Instagram posts of female influencers about body positivity have on the positive body image of women? Positive body image is operationalized as body appreciation. In addition to the main and interaction effects of the type of body presentation and the...

Despite the diversity of methods of assessment, daytime sleepiness remains difficult to detect and monitor. In fact, some inconsistencies are observed in clinical and non-clinical research when it comes to the correlation or convergence between the outcomes of the different methods of assessment of sleepiness. The present study combines both field and laboratories settings to investigate how various measures of sleepiness react to the cumulative effect of repeated sleep restriction. More...

This study is intended to study how social media use is related to well-being. We predict that those who are higher in psychological richness, and who prefer to lead a psychologically rich life, will follow more diverse social media accounts. Additionally, we predict that those who are higher in subjective well-being, and who prefer to lead a happy, will follow accounts that are more narrowed in interest, and closely align with their own values.

Rey's Auditory Verbal Learning test (RAVLT, Lezak, Howieson, Bigler, & Tranel, 2012) evaluates various aspects of memory and learning and is a very important diagnostic and differential diagnostic instrument in neurology and neuropsychology. In this study, we will evaluate the validity of RAVLT in a sample of 200 subjects from the general population and 50 subjects with a...

Reproducibility is in the core of science. Several disciplines estimated and continue to estimate the reproducibility of their findings after science realized that many studies could not reproduce. The objective of this study is to estimate the reproducibility of highly cited clinical studies published between 2005 and 2018. Our primary outcome is the rate of successful replication in these studies, accordingly to prespecified reproducibility definitions.

Complex problem solving in applied settings within the realm of IT security is an emergent field of psychological research. We propose an experimental study design on de-camouflaging, a task that is routinely performed during hardware reverse engineering. In an experimental study manipulating system...

Emotional eating (EE) is commonly defined as eating in response to negative emotions, though a more accurate definition might be eating that is triggered by emotions rather than hunger (Bongers and Jansen, 2016). While it is assumed that higher scores on self-report EE measures indicates the tendency of an individual to overeat when emotional, this has not been consistently demonstrated in the literature. Commonly used self-reported EE scales (e.g., Dutch Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (BEDQ)...

In this study, we want to investigate: 1) whether anticipatory vibrotactile cues mitigate motion sickness as well, and 2) which time interval between an anticipatory vibrotactile cue and onset of a motion mitigates motion sickness best. Healthy behaviours are actions to maintain, attain or regain good health (e.g. exercising regularly, eating a balanced diet). Contrarily, health risk behaviours are those with potentially negative effects (e.g. high levels of alcohol consumption, smoking, poor diet, and insufficient physical activity) and are known to be major causes of chronic disease and premature mortality (World Health Organization, 2008). Whilst health risk behaviours are often researched separately, evidence suggests that...

Scrutinizing the conflicting studies regarding the association of interpersonal emotional competence with parental burnout, we propose that intrapersonal emotional competence may act as a confounder (a variable related to the other factors of interest that falsely obscures or accentuates the relationship between them) which drives the negative association of interpersonal emotional competence with parental burnout. To test this possibility and have a thorough view of the association of these...

Emotional abuse in romantic relationships is a relatively new and an overlooked concept in the clinical psychology field. It is defined as 'verbal and mental behavior that aims to control, humiliate, punish and isolate one's partner so that his/her psychological well being is disrupted, resulting in a personal or relational gain for the perpetrator' (Murphy & Hoover, 1999). Due to the lack of physical evidence, it is a quite subjective phenomenon that is hard to be acknowledged and agreed...
