This is Nethack 2.2+ by Mike Stephenson, as presented in chapter 2 of the
Fatal Distractions CD.From the book:
"The 2.2+ release of Nethack is the version that was commonly distributed as Nethack 2. It is called 2.2+ because it has some of the features of 2.3 already incorporated. Release 2.3 apparently never made it to the MS-DOS world.
Once you start playing Nethack, some of the differences between it and its predecessor, Hack 3.6, are immediately obvious. First of all, you have a whole new range of roles to play: Do you want to be an Archaeologist, a Tourist, a Barbarian, a Knight, a Caveman, a Samurai, a Ninja, a Priest, a Valkyrie, an Elf, a Healer, or a Wizard?
The dungeons themselves have been extensively remodeled- by someone with a very weird sense of humor."
As with Hack & Hacklite, a number of options have been set in the config file (nethack.cnf).
I have kept most of the ones that came in the file from the book except for the ones assigning names to things already.
The options set is:
rest_on_space,time,IBMBIOS,packorder:%/=?!)[(*0,endgame:10 t / 2 a,rawio,nopickup
Another option of note is the choice of termcap driver- I've chosen nansi-color.
