Serial Experiments: Lain DESKTOP THEME Requirements - Windows 95/98 - MS PLUS! (although not necessary as all components of the theme can be installed manually. There are other programs for installing desktop themes that will work as well) - 800 x 600 screen resolution under a high color setting This theme was created by MANVEDI (manvedi@yahoo.es) and is freeware. This theme is for personal use only. Theme Installation ------------------- Unzip the desktop theme file (seriallain.zip) using an unzipping utility such as Win Zip into it's own folder. If you have MS PLUS!, move the folder with the contents of the theme into your themes directory (usually C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes) If you have some other theme program then you are on your own (it's not hard to figure it out) FONT INSTALLATION ------------------ This theme uses Love Letter true type font. To install these fonts, move LoveLetter.ttf from the theme folder to your windows font directory (Usually C:\Windows\Fonts). Start up/ Shut down screen installation -------------------------------------------------------- First of all... There are freeware and shareware programs out there that will install these screen files for you and that is a lot easier. If you wish to install the start up and shut down screens manually then CAREFULLY follow these instructions: 1. Look in the theme folder and see if you see 3 screen files. They are "logo.sys" and "logow.sys". If you do not see these files then you have the folder set to hide certain file types. If you do see these files then skip step 1. To make the folder show all file types do the following: -open the theme folder and look under "view" in your menu bar at the top of the folder, and select "folder options". When the folder options up, open the "view" tab at the top. look for a "hidden files" section and select "show all files" if you can find it (it's easy to find once you are in there). Then click OK at the bottom. The "sys" screen files should now be visiable. 2.!!!Follow this step very carefully!!! There are 3 screens that windows uses: -logo.sys - start up screen - located in C:\ -logow.sys - shut down (wait) screen - located in C:\Windows\ It is highly recommended that you make a copy of these original windows screen files and store them somewhere else so that you can put them back the way it was. Once you have done that then you can install the Fear Factory screen files into these directorys. Rename Lain_logo.sys to logo.sys and replace the original logo.sys located in C:\ Rename Lain_logow.sys to logow.sys and replace the orogianl logow.sys located in C:\Windows\ Rename Lain_logos.sys to logos.sys and replace the orogianl logow.sys located in C:\Windows\ SCREENSAVER -------------------------------------------------------- Move NAVISCDD2.SCR to C:\Windows WVLOGO.GIF -------------------------------------------------------- Rename Lain_Wvlogo.gif to Wvlogo.gif and replace the original Wvlogo.gif in C:\windows\web **************************************************************************************************************** If you did everything correctly and carefully followed the instrucrions, everything will work correctly. Email me at manvedi@yahoo.es if you have any questions. Enjoy the theme! Manvedi manvedi@yahoo.es
