The state is seeing a slight uptick in COVID hospitalizations at the moment. According to the Department of Health COVID-19 Dashboard, 10% of hospital beds are occupied by those experiencing serious symptoms. COVID-19 hospitalization peaked in January during the Omicron surge before decreasing but has slowly started rising again and now over 600 patients are hospitalized right now.

Executive Dow Constantine announced the opening of the newest Health Through Housing building in Northgate. The Northgate location was purchased in July 2021 and has a total of 115 available units, 20 of which will be reserved for double occupancy. More than 130 people are scheduled to move in this month. This is the fifth opening since the Health Through Housing initiative began, purchasing former hotels last year and preparing them to serve as permanent supportive housing in the region.

King County has signed an agreement with Jim Kosalos and Dev Zeitlin to acquire two undeveloped lots located between Big Finn Hill Park. These lots are adjacent to the wooded Winski parcel that the City of Kirkland purchased earlier in 2021. Together, these three purchases of woodlands, wetlands and a section of Denny Creek add up to more than 7 acres of new protected green space.

King County Metro joined Seattle City Light and the City of Tukwila to celebrate the opening of the Metro Transit South Base charging facility for Metro’s new fleet of all-electric buses. The facility supports efforts to provide accessible electrified public transit for south King County communities and reduce air and noise pollution throughout the region.
