Characteristics necessary in the art of the modern opera singer are the co-existence of a meticulous vocal technique, instinctive interpretation, and great musicality. Mario Bertolino possesses all of these qualities. They have allowed him to perform on the major stages of the most prestigious opera houses of the world. He has had great success in both bass baritone roles and those buffo roles that are notoriously demanding not only on the psychological and vocal profile but also because they require firm attitude in their recitation.
Mario Bertolino studied and graduated from the Conservatory of Music Vincenzo Bellini in Palermo, Italy. He then continued his studies at the Conservatory Giuseppe Verdi (Milano) and privately with baritone Mario Basiola Sr. Subsequently, he participated and was triumphant in the well known operatic contest, Association Lyric and Concert International in Milano, Italy. Winning this competition gave Mario Bertolino his debut in Milano, Italy. After his first European success, he was engaged to sing in the United States. It was in Philadelphia where he made his U.S. debut in "Lucia di lammermoor". He went on to sing in every major opera house in the United States including the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Each season Mario Bertolino returns to the leading opera houses of Europe and the United States in addition to a world wide concert schedule.
Although Mario Bertolino has hundreds of classic and contemporary songs in repertoire, a few remain his favorites. He presents them here with a grand and glorious voice, accompanied by the Rome Symphony Orchestra.
