The stuff
This is a good SBD but if you like this show, check out David Usborne's Matrix, which has a sharper treble end and a more natural blend of the instruments. This is a great show from a great tour, unfortunately overshadowed by Hartford and Nassau. As was often the case during late 79 and the early 80s on the east coast, the scene on the floor during the first set was a dangerous crush, and Bobby has to do the "step back". It's a rocknroll show throughout, with a lot of assertive howls and feedback, such as a great RR Blues, Going Down the Road, and JBG, but the real gems here are the Cassidy, Music, and the Scarlet Fire, where than band goes from conventional openings to pure liquid music. Listen to the way the sinewy floral patterns open up during the Music Never Stopped over layers of feedback, like a genie emerging from a bottle---yikes! Bobby weaves beautiful ribbons of sound around Jerry's notes. The spare and haunting climax of Cassidy. And then the transition out of Scarlet Begonias, where it sounds like Bobby is pulling back cosmic slingshot pockets and Jerry is shooting out fireballs. It's an extraordinary feeling of forward movement through space. The 3rd lead in Fire on the Mountain is one of the most bone chilling moments of crying feedback I have ever witnessed. Turn up the volume and check it out.

The quintessential early '80s show. I'm amused by the previous comment related to hiss. There was hiss in the hall when they turned the PA on. The amplification at this time made it's own and you heard it, but they played so loud, you thought it was your ears ringing.

pick of the litter...
This one is the cleanest of the bunch....still got the hiss, but the 2nd set fares better in the audio dept. as the set gets moving. By the first solo in Scarlet all seems fairly well and the hiss gets lost in the sick, furious, jamming. Don't miss it cause you were being to picky....it is worth the listen, IMO. Check out the night before for another gem. Low 4 star because of the prevalent hiss/audio.
