He’s gone —> Wharf Rat ?! Need I say more??
So sweet so good
Best Bird Song in fucking history
I love this show so much
A lot to Laugh Train to Cry + That’s All Right Mama, fucking JGB staples back to back but with that BURNIN early 70s energy of the dead?? Fucking incredible
You hear how patient and restrained Jerry is on his Not Fade solo? This show is so fucking amazing
Eternal gratitude to all who put effort into getting this incredible sounding soundboard recording up for all to hear
Amen

I'm enjoying this show. Love the reviews. The 'eyes" is truly superb and they really let lose on this version. Love how they open with Morning Dew. Super rare.

Sweet Memories!
This was my third show, (yes, I'm getting old) -I'd already been enveloped in the joy of the day before. Got some good photos on the ninth. It was a very special afternoon and night- I'll never forget it. The performance live was definately better than what you get from the SNBDs loaded here. They were so ON I was in heaven. I drifted here and there only about 30 ft. from the stage, dead center. Listening to the first few bars of this Morning Dew again literally gives me goosebumps. The day before was amazing, and I hardly expected them to surpass it, but they did.
I'm a big fan of Birdsong, largely for the jams they did within it, and this one is the longest I know of...beautifully rendered. PITB follows to end the first set, and by this time it was completely dark...and we all got a mind-blowing surprise. Right when the final bars of Playin' started, the refrain, someone in the sound booth out in the audience set off some major fireworks. So, during the final chords of the song, we get this visual extravaganza, everybody with their heads tilted back, gazing up in major euphoria.
Even though a bit of the magic from how extremely tight they were is lost in these recordings, it's still a great stream, especially Charlie's transfer. Buy yourself a really good desktop stereo if you haven't already, and enjoy!

Great Show
Really solid stuff...except for some weird thing that Phil starts doing in Dark Star...and not spacey weird...more like he is trying to cue a song at a very awkward moment. Settle down easy Phily.
And I guess that is Dickey Betts on the 3rd set?

40 Year Flashback
500 Stars
My first Dead show June 9th & 10th, 1973....
My first LSD trip....
God Bless Charlie Miller, Kelton Burgess (who told me about this) and the Archive. I'm spending the exact 40th anniversary re-experiencing this mega concert.....
Nobody will ever convince me there was ever a better show, even if there is...including the numerous mistakes...
We got there after the music started the first day....I really wanted to hear Doug Sahm and I've never been able to confirm that he did or did not appear....the reviewer from Rolling Stone (whom I suspect spent the day at the hotel) says that Sahm opened Saturday and Wet Willie opened Sunday (RS gave the prize to Wet Willie but made no mention of the next sentence)...my memory was Wet Willie both days and a stunning, show-stopper the first day from a new band from Spartanburg,SC: The Marshall Tucker Band. Laugh all you want, dear DeadHeads, then listen to MTB's CD "Way Out West" from Sept. 26, 1973 at SF Winterland, especially " Everyday I Sing the Blues"...Bands just don't crank this hard anymore, period.....Jerry proves conclusively that all true rock n roll guitar playing starts and ends with Chuck Berry.....Any way thanks to Charlie Miller and Kelton Burgess...and everybody at Archive...40 year Flashback!!!!!!!

Good set, yes - but '73 being their best year ever, no
late '60s to me. the standouts here - morning dew, jack straw, bird song, dark star (especially the last third) and it takes a train to cry - probably the best version of this song i've ever heard, even over dylan's or kooper and stills on super sessions.
when they were on, they were really on.
likewise, when they were off, they were really off.
never did care much for the race is on - round and round and johnny be good are okay, but i'll take chuck berry any day of the week.
otherwise they were right on the button. el paso and big river are up there with johnny cash and marty robbins.

This one is epic!
Yet another red-hot incredibly long concert (4 hours and 35 minutes long, no less!) from the fabulous year of 1973, arguably the Dead´s finest year ever.
One of the things which make ´73 stand out, even by Dead standards, is that the jazz-influence was much more pronounced in that year than in any other era in the band´s history. Just listen to this concert´s ´Dark Star´ and you´ll know what I mean.
