Here's a rare treat, a concert by the last band featuring Jerry Garcia with Merl Saunders, Reconstruction . This band was founded by bassist John Kahn with Merl, and Garcia participated when he was available. This is the only band I'm aware of where Jerry was more of a side man than the main attraction. This concert from Rancho Nicasio in San Rafael was recorded by KPFA-FM in Berkeley in March 1979, and may or may not have been broadcast at that time or a later date. Reconstruction: John Kahn...

Here's a rare recording of Fleetwood Mac in March of 1972, after they released Future Games and just before their Bare Trees album came out. Static + Distance is a radio program hosted by Joshua Justice airing bi-weekly on Freeform Portland . Pulling primarily from their record collection, the host pursues unspoken and hard to decipher themes (e.g. "music for a windy beach day" or "desert songs"). The tracks generally hail from the 60s and 70s and often fall within the general umbrella of jazz, soul or folk, but occasionally there's an auditory excursion into the worlds of ambient music or Brazilian psychedelic,...

A long, long time ago, before many of you were born, there was a wondrous thing called "progressive" or "freeform" radio. These were the days when rock radio stations were programmed by people who actually knew and loved music, rather than the accountants and marketing analysts who now control the airwaves. During this time it was possible to hear, in a single program, music by artists as diverse as the Beatles, Ravi Shankar and Miles Davis, to name but a few, picked and...

For the 650th broadcast recording posted on FM Radio Archive, I wanted to pay tribute to the San Francisco Peninsula , which uses the 650 area code in San Mateo & Santa Clara counties. I spent 32 years of my life in that area code, and I searched for a concert that would best represent the area. This is it, the venue and some band members are from the San Francisco Peninsula . I attended many Dead concerts, and also several Shoreline concerts. The Grateful Dead in concert at Shoreline...
