This is an incomplete Japanese set of Compaq SmartStart v2.10 from February 1995, acquired from Yahoo! Auctions in December 2021.
Five CDs were acquired and have been dumped: at least four CDs are missing.
Included are the following CDs:
- SmartStart CD#1 (which seems to be intended for Japanese language only)
- Windows NT 3.1 [Compaq OEM] (the previously dumped one is from January 1994; this one is from February 1995 and additionally includes the Japanese language OS (the free build, which was previously undumped; additionally the Advanced Server edition, which was previously undumped), Japanese SP2, and SP2 and SP3 for other languages.
- Windows NT 3.5 [Compaq OEM] (containing both Workstation and Server editions, in English and Japanese languages only)
- NetWare CD (containing NetWare 3.12, 4.1, and 3.12J (which was, as far as I know, previously undumped in any form), and ARCserve 5.01 in English and Japanese languages)
- NetWare documentation CD
Mentioned in the help files on SmartStart CD 1, but missing, include SCO, OS/2 and Oracle database server CDs (and possibly more).
The NT CDs, as usual for Compaq SmartStart sets, have the registry hives included in an encrypted form. Compaq rolled their own crypto here based on substitution cipher tables generated from a PRNG with a 96-bit seed. By patching SETUPAPP.EXE and replacing the registry hives with compressed versions from some other previously dumped NT 3.1 media of the same language, NT 3.1 can be installed.
