The Bell System Practices were a set of documents produced by the American Telephone and Telegraph Company to instruct employees on the proper use and maintenance of all kinds of telephone equipment. As these materials span decades of the history of (what was at the time) the world's largest corporation, the quality varies widely. Some documents are carefully phototypeset originals, some are enlargements from microfilm, and still others are third-generation photocopies of typewritten originals.
Topics: Bell System, telephone, ATT, American Telegraph and Telephone, phone equipment, manuals

Are you a One Minute Wonder?  This short film is a training film shown to Pacific Northwest Bell installers in the 1970s, encouraging them to upsell customers on extra-cost services. This was transferred from a film positive in 2009, using a mechanical telecine machine to output NTSC, and a Firewire video capture tool. The telecine did not have reliable frame synch, so an inverse-telecine operation would need careful editing.

This text accompanied a course in panel machine switching given in Seattle in the early 1920s. The course was given to future switchmen in preparation for the introduction of dial service in March 1923. Some of the text specifically mentions the names of the three offices that were installed: Rainier, Melrose, and West. Some chapters are missing from the original document. This copy was mimeographed, and the text had faded significantly. I have edited this document so the text is higher...

Original AT&T internal educational publication on the crossbar tandem (XBT) switching system. This switch was a "tandem" switch, and was used to route calls between local central offices only. This type of switch did not have any subscriber lines provisioned to it. The intended audience for this document was switchmen, and the material was most likely delivered in a classroom environment.
