First, I would like to thank Mr. Scary Muffin for bringing up the idea of speed running Pokemon. When I saw the topic, I thought to myself "There's no way to beat Pokemon R/B/Y under 7 hours!" I decided to read the topic anyways, though, to see what they thought. When I saw that GGFan, who I would also like to thank for his FAQ, beat the game in 3:07, I was impressed. I checked out his FAQs and decided that I would try to run this game for fun. It seemed like a quick and easy run to, err, run. When I did some test runs and saw that I was running the game faster than anyone else posting on the Pokemon topic, I decided to record it. The run only took me 2 weeks to complete, but if I were on vacation, it would have only taken 2-3 days. Oh ya, I'd also like to thank Forgotten One for some tips that he gave me.
Anyways, on to the run. First, I'm sorry about the quality of the video in parts 1-2. In the first section, I had the screen filter set too soft, which looks horrible. In the second section, I left some programs open, causing my capture card to skip some frames. As you can see, both these problems are fixed in the rest of the run.
Here are my mistakes...
-Sections 7 and 8 should have been one segment.
-Sections 18 and 19 should have been one segment.
-You could argue some of the other segments should have been combined, but I didn't.
-Almost all of the items I buy are useless, and should not be bought next time.
-I pick up thundershock because it says so in GGFan's FAQ, but I end up not needing it.
-I have some sloppy battles where I should have restarted such as the one with the Rocket that stole the dig TM.
-I should have caught Oddish and Spearow on the first try, without having random battles pop up first.
I also have an alternative route that I have to test out next time, which should be a few minutes faster. Also, someone said in the forums that you could use a Pokedoll instead of the Silph Scope. Even without that, I can get this run in or near the 2:30 range, possibly under if the Pokedoll thing works. I hope you enjoy it! If you have questions, comments, or suggestions, you can email me at platinum.cygnus@gmail.com or talk to me on AIM under the username Platinum Cygnus.
