Millenium Falcon Holographic Projector
This took months (maybe even 1+ year) on and (mostly) off to *finally* get working!
The idea, simple enough: fit our
HD projector inside a Millenium Falcon model, that projects out its front.
I found a Kenner remake (slightly improved but nearly a clone) of the classic Falcon I never had as a child (hella expensive). It features:
* openining cockpit, sliding chairs, 4 full-size action figures can sit
* about 50 various sounds and lights (activated from about 10 various buttons)
* fully retractable landing ramp (of course w/ lights and sounds)
* movable radar dish, escape hatch, smuggling compartments
* enormous interior -- including lit "chess table" area, medical bay, and lots more
* removable top pieces to get to said interior
* center "tube" w/ single gunner seat and main center canons w/ visible top/bottom windows
Now, you get a toy like this, and realize you literally have to take a huge gamble, cut its heart out, try to preserve as much of the lights and sounds and features as possible, and try to make it all still structurally work.
Let's forget trying to get projector to shoot out the front, *not* overheat, and not mess up the picture!
It took me months to commit to that, and it was going to be too tight. I had to dremel out a lot of the front carefully to make it all work.
Then it took months off/on trying to retrace all my work notes about the screws, the power lines, and solve all the last problems.
BUT IT'S DONE, FINALLY!
and we shot at least 3 hours of movie clips, video, and airplay music last night w/ friends at the end of a fun deck/BBQ/CNet iOS launch celebration party, yay!
soooo relieved.
This is, quite literally, a dream come true!
