. right now on kpix5 and streaming on cbsn bay area looking live from treasure island looking at the skyline of san francisco. good morning. it's tuesday, november 30th. >> we will start with a check on the weather. we have a beautiful day yesterday. how long is that sun going to last? >> it'll last all week. we are looking at plenty of sun and warm temperatures through friday. not a lot of change here with that ridge of high pressure in control. all right feeling like the holidays and you can see looking at union square and the festive lights we are looking at temperatures in the 40's and 50's as we start off the day. mainly clear skies. it's a chilly start. dealing with patchy dense fog. we had a bit of haze in the skies. that will be the case again today. we have that ridge of high pressure and that sinking air trapping the pollution at the surface. still looking at moderate air quality for today and actually through the week. checking the daytime highs. we are talking 60's and 70's
with that sun. 65 in pacifica, 68 san francisco, 69 oakland. upper 60's to low 70's for the peninsula and upper 60's to low 70's. 70 for concord and we are looking at daytime highs around 69 in napa. let's check in with traffic. >> good morning. things looking pretty clear. let's start off with the bay bridge. things moving smoothly there. metering lights are off. it should be an easy drive. time from the maze into san francisco, seven minutes. golden gate bridge looking clear. a 20 men drive going south from 37 into the city and the chp has issued a fog advisory. keep abhijit eye out for that when you cross and looking at the main travel times. pass in the green, other roads looking good so far, highway 4 to the maze. 13 minutes and 101 northbound looking clear.
just as the holiday wraps up a new coronavirus variant. andrea is in san rafael with more on how the potential next wave may hit just in time for christmas. >> at this point the omicron variant hasn't been seen here but many feel it's just a matter of time, most likely in the next two weeks. >> we have not seen the family. that's really -- that's a heartbreaking part. >> frank and theresa are visiting from rhode island to finally see family again this thanksgiving. now they are concerned about the new variant first found in south africa. >> when will this end? it just seems to keep getting legs and continuing. >> researchers want to know how transmissible it is, how sick it can make you and how well it holds up to vaccines. >> we have a lot of work to do to figure out where we are exactly and how this may tip the apple cart one way or the
other. >> so far there are signs this variant may be more infectious than the del it. if you are traveling to southern africa they should change their plans. short of that i don't think there's a lot of need at this point in time to change plans. >> sill some say they are concerned and are rethinking their family get together. >> i was planning ongoing up north, seeing family, a lot of family and then heading up 234 to oregon. yeah, i think it may just be a stay at home christmas this year. >> so far in south africa children aged two and under make up 150% of the hospitalizations that's according to the national institute of diseases. kids that are in that age group that are not able to be vaccinated with just oar 20% of the entire south african population vaccinated, it's critical to send millions of

can't loose another dad. so pull through and fight, okay? the 56-year-old died three days after he was shot in the stomach protecting a reporter covering a smash and grab robbery in downtown oakland. >> after he had been shot he was just telling the news crew to get down. he. >> he is was protecting until his last breath. >> yeah. >> she said he worked as an armed guard after retirement in the police force because he loved the work. he went over the top with gifts like this dine dinosaur to her three boys. >> i'm so proud to have known him. i can't even say in past tense. i feel like he is still here. police departments are like so supportive of him. it's almost like overwhelming. this is -- i lived with this guy, like this hero.
>> he was supposed to meet his new grandson on a family trip to hawaii scheduled for december 1st. >> i know -- he wants us to stop crying. i know he will want us to take the vacation but to be honest it's too hard to do it. i don't even now how many months can pass until we can go on that plane without crying that he was supposed to come with us. i know that he will want us to keep telling funny stories about him even if it's embarrassing. i just know he doesn't want us to be sad. >> kpix5. >> and she said moments after her father was shot the responding officer at the scene was someone that he knew. she said that he recognized the officer's voice and was able to call out to him while he was rushed to the hospital in the

products and impacting their livelihoods. they are stealing a sense of place and confidence. >> organized retail robberies san francisco to walnut creek, san jose, and palo alto are on an alarming rise causing seven da's to vow to prosecute thieves together and the governor to order the chp to increase patrols on freeway corridors near major malls as well as make stops at the shopping centers. >> full stop. we want real responsibility. we want people prosecuted. we want people to feel safe this holiday season. >> it's ridiculous that people are doing that and that people are scared to get out of their homes to shop for the holidays. i feel like it's ridiculous. >> she is grateful for the extra uniformed protection but said she will feel safer when she sees the book thrown at those who are caught. >> people can still rob without any consequence. it's sad. they are going to keep doing it
