“Rollin Manville and C. Rollin Manville:
Father and Son, Superintendents of the Pennsylvania Division of the D&H” by
S. Robert Powel, Ph.D.
This article was published in the June
2022 issue of the Bridge Line Historical Society Bulletin, pp. 16-18. It is presented here in two formats: as submitted by the author to the BLHS for publication, and as a published article.
Shown at the head of this item (also as 001.jpg) is a stereoscopic view of Manville
Falls (seen from below) at Panther Bluffs on the Delaware and Hudson Gravity
Railroad. This photo was taken by the legendary Hawley, PA photographer Ludolph
Hensel. It is No. 1158 in the Hensel's series, produced in 1879, titled “A Ride
over the Del. & Hud Gravity Road into the Coal Regions”. The back of that stereocard is shown here as 03.jpg. Also shown here,
as 02.jpg, is No. 1157 (“Manville Falls on Panther’s Creek, seen from above”) in that same Hensel series.
