No Doubt , the greatest tour from the Grateful Dead. I had a 4th gen SBD probably copy of the last show , 05/26/1972 Lyceum, a complete copy at that. I transferred my buddy's tape to VHS HiFi and set it and forget it. It almost clocked to 4 hours. It was a real treat even though it sounded lo fi, the mix was good enough to hear everything. After listening to the entire tour, I still say the last show was the best performance, evidently so did the GD , they use the Trucking'>Jam , edit, Morning Dew on the commercial Europe 72 three LP. Another great show is: Hamburg show, I wish we had the masters of the aud source !!!

Now some folks might say this wasn't the best tour of the year. ๐Ÿ˜„

I was just going to come here and make a post about these shows, and the box set in particular. I'm about to begin celebrating this glorious run once again but I can never settle on an EQ setting for any of them. Does anyone have any recommendations or particular ways they prefer listening to optimize the sound? I'm mostly listening via headphones, with a little bit of car listening.

I remember people complaining quite a bit when the 16 tracks from whole tour came out (only Deadheads!!!), somewhere here I remember someone mentioning that either raising or lowering the mids really worked wonders. I'm often guilty of doing the "smile" thing when it comes to EQ, but these shows deserve the best!

I'm of the belief that EQs are there to make you happy. Put it where you like it is my motto. I boost the mids cause I got rock-'n'-roll ears. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I still read my book every now and then. Hope your copy is in better shape than mine. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

50 years ago today they kicked the thing off in London.
So with the relative quality of each recording now a moot issue, the audiophiles can sit this one out. That said, what's the best *performance*, the best show from the spring of '72?

Now accepting nominations. Support your position; in the words of Jim Rome: 'Have a take, and don't suck.'

4-26 is the best. Mozart would have been impressed.

I'm inclined to agree. 5/11 is sort of the Dark Star equivalent show of 4/26, both are nearly equally favorites of the tour for me.

"I really appreciate all those fine audience tapes, they put me right there with the sweet sights and crowd ambiance. It adds a nice dash of reality" Cliff never said..

I suck at why, however I chose the Rotterdam show with it's epic Dark Star!

LOL I wasn't gonna mention any names but yeah, so much of the discussion used to be around the fidelity of the various recordings.
I would have guessed with this two month internship across the pond that the strength of their performances might have gathered a particular momentum over time. (I'm partial to Rotterdam as well.) But there are reviews from early April that are remarkably strong. Check out this one from Newcastle, only their third gig, in early April.

Yep! I'm taking the trip. Stumbling out of the blocks with Greatest Story, but the recording sparkles.

Thanks Elbow(LBo), aka The Hustler.

Get on the bus.
