The 9/11 Television News Archive is a library of news coverage of the events of 9/11/2001 and their aftermath as presented by U.S. and international broadcasters. A resource for scholars, journalists, and the public, it presents one week of news broadcasts for study, research and analysis. Television is our pre-eminent medium of information, entertainment and persuasion, but until now it has not been a medium of record. This Archive attempts to address this gap by making TV news coverage of...

Todd realized the shower's peak coincided with a new (no) moon so we went to try to see meteors and catch some on film! We have 4 time lapses. We used a Canon EOS-30D 8MP camera on a tripod, "slaved" via USB2.0 to a Sony VAIO laptop. When batteries croaked, we used an inverter to the cigarette lighter 8-). WATCH THIS IN THE DARK! This tract against the practice of social dancing is based on a series of articles written by Jones in 1852. Jones notes alarm because dance is gaining favor with the public. Two of his arguments are common in this genre of literature. First, he claims that dance is an unhealthy exercise. Second, he claims that dance in the Bible is exempted from criticism because it was interpreted as being performed only by women. Jones argues that dance is the natural result of "fervent piety, and of a...

Millenium Falcon Holographic Projector This took months (maybe even 1+ year) on and (mostly) off to *finally* get working! I'm about to sell, with some sadness, my 1978 Honda CB400A "Hondamatic" motorcycle. I have one last problem with it -- that's been baffling me for over a year. When I consolidated the speedometer and "idiot lights" to a svelte new cafe racer style chrome LED-based single instrument, I found that its neutral light was always on , no matter what gear. So I finally figured out a clever (if I may say so) way through research to use the "proverbial $7 part" from...

short time lapse of Cape Cod marsh with clouds moving over the waters. I used a digital Elph camera in timelapse mode which produced a 640x480 15fps AVI. I sped that up by 4x to 60fps using mencoder to make it more dramatic. Real clock time during the shoot was about 30 minutes.

Things I see and hear on the prettiest part of my commute. Footage source is Motion-JPEG 640x480 30fps from Canon SD-300. I "vintaged" it (this is how I "see" the Presidio, after all) and cropped top and bottom to 16:9 ratio. What can I say -- I'm a sucker for film and the miniDV and HDV stuff isn't my bag.

Preview of how Hunter and I plan to collaborate! Audio track is new music used with permission from Hunter Lee Brown . It is his latest piece titled "My Father Didn't Know John Adams" (John Adams, a local Berkeley "minimalist" composer has a piece called "My Father Knew Charles Ives" 8-) ) This is zooming in from the house on a friday night shoot (our view isn't quite this good with the naked eye!) Tracey's new iron pipe "steampunk"-like vintage bulb custom lamp. Just fitted the main parts together and did some test wiring with a dimmer circuit to see how it looks and feels before a more permanent setup/install! (Oh and it won't be on a rack when it's done -- it will be wall mounted, etc.)

Drake Saga Remix I had fun rearranging gops (Groups Of Pictures) from my 2007 video The Drake Saga and giving it a catchy bootie mashup audio track called Justice for Billie Jean A Group of Pictures is a concept for video compression. Each one is: a full frame (AKA "keyframe" or "I-frame") (kinda like a JPEG, etc.) of a video followed by partial frames (AKA "P-frames" and "B-frames") (imagine a bunch of smaller tiles that contain parts of the video for...

🚂  DevOps Training Sessions.  Setup GitLab, Nomad, Consul & Fabio. 📰  SLIDES We're using Digital Ocean VMs this week -- starting from minimal and just-created Ubuntu linux. We'll build up GitLab (via Docker omnibus) and a basic, but secure and cluster-able Nomad & Consul pair of daemons, towards full CI/CD pipelines.  The next week, we do part 2 . NOTE: find the ⚙️  icon, video area lower right, to switch to HD.

This is a short video demonstrating the " php-htm-mode " code editing in emacs for when there are multiple coding languages in the file in question. The mode is tailored to intermixed PHP, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. It can be forked and extended to other languages. This is much more readable playing the "HD" option and in fullscreen mode! (due to unusual width/height of the source video screen capture.) screen shots

Star Wars re - remastered! What is wrong with this picture? (top is 2004 DVD; bottom is 1977 version DVD) (hints: added flying object; dewback; are those *roman soldiers*?!) Here's the problem: - you love Star Wars - you like high quality restored video and audio - you are a purist and didn't like the added computer graphics (CG) junk to the 2004 DVD box set version - you want the cleaned up video and audio, but without the baggage of those changes! (See the changes in the film side-by-side in...

Saving my 1978 Honda CB400A "Decaf" bike from a near fatal blow -- lower gasket blowout and huge oil leak ! (like, dumped a quart+ of oil in minutes while riding fast on highway at high temps).
