In May of 2011, Salon announced the deletion of the Table Talk message base, with 30 days notice, after 16 years of operation. With little attempt to find a new home for the site, and with little reason given, the site was ultimately deleted in June of 2011 and replaced with an article reminiscing on the history of Table Talk. Archive Team has downloaded the full public threads of Table Talk, excluding group threads that had a semi-private setting, predating most search engines.

As part of the mailing-list aspect of the Google Groups site, administrators and users were able to share webpages and files related to the mailing lists, starting in the early 2000s. Many of these mailing lists went dormant or had static information, and in many cases the administration of the lists would end, leaving the pages and files as important resources and information. On September 22nd, 2010, Google Groups announced that all updating to Google Groups pages and files would be halted in...

Billing itself as a fast and free file transfer site, AnyHub.net provided a way to share files online with low or no cost. After a period of relative success, the site started announcing it was shutting down. Archive Team members took a snapshot of many of the contents of AnyHub, for the purposes of historical research and seeing how a file host might have been used. Returning briefly, Anyhub finally went under in early 2012, with the domain name going up for sale as well.

The hardest part about our transient, shallow world wide web is the terrifying swiftness in which data disappears. To this end, Archive Team members have often bravely strapped on miner's helmets and flashlights, dove into the flaming wreckage of a dying site, and grabbed a copy for all of time. Some of these rescues, consisting of what we could grab, are being saved here. Please Note: Some of these items were not burning as brightly or recently as others - they might be merely considered...

A little bird told Archive Team that the University of Michigan IT department was planning to shift students to Google services over the summer of 2012 to cut costs; in doing so, many student webpages would be shut down and accounts moved away, especially of alumni. As student webpages are among the most important indicators of the early works of researchers and academics, Archive Team has taken a precautionary save of all public student websites. The student pages are in WARC format, saved in...

What is this about? This wiki is a catalog of the tricks of the trade for writing fiction. Tropes are devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations. On the whole, tropes are not clichés. The word clichéd means "stereotyped and trite." In other words, dull and uninteresting. We are not looking for dull and uninteresting entries. We are here to recognize tropes and play with them, not to make fun of them....

First you need to understand that blind computer users don't use computers in the way normal sighted people do. We use special software called a screen reader which tells us what's on the screen and provides easier access to programs and websites. On Windows, the most popular screen readers are Jaws for Windows, Window-Eyes, System Access, and Non-visual Desktop Access. Because we don't look at the screen, we also use the keyboard exclusively. Screen readers and other programs often make use of...
